Out-of-favour India batter Prithvi Shaw made his second fifty-plus score in three innings for his new domestic team, Maharashtra, during a Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match against TNCA President's XI.

At the Gojan Cricket Ground 'B', TNCA Presidents XI made 384-9 in the first innings, riding on twin hundreds from Andre Siddharth C (111) and Baba Indrajith (104). Captain Pradosh Ranjan Paul also chipped in with 76 off 134.

In response, Shaw gave Maharashtra a solid start with a half-century. Resuming on his overnight score of 47 off 57, he reached the milestone off the first ball on day three with a back-foot punch, taking three runs. After Maharashtra were 61-2 early on, Shaw and Harshal Kate stitched a 94-run stand to take the batting team to a solid position at 155-2. That’s when Achyuth C V, who took a five-wicket haul in the previous match, struck to dismiss Shaw for 66 off 96. Kate soon fell for 62, with Maharashtra slipping to 159-4. They collapsed further, losing their eighth wicket for 188, with a 196-run first innings deficit still to climb.

Prithvi Shaw continues boom-or-bust start for Maharashtra

This was Shaw’s second fifty-plus score in three innings ever since switching allegiance to Maharashtra for the upcoming domestic season. Against Chhattisgarh in the pre-season Buchi Babu tournament, he made 111 off 141 on a turner where the other Maharashtra batters just managed 92 runs among them. However, in the second innings, he fell for just one run as Chhattisgarh won the match by 35 runs.

Last year, Shaw was dropped from the Mumbai squad due to fitness and disciplinary issues and didn’t get a team in IPL 2025 either. His recent stint before the Buchi Babu tournament came in the Mumbai T20 League for North Mumbai Panthers. After failing to notch up a score of substance initially, he capped off the tournament with a 34-ball 75.
