England swept West Indies in a three-match ODI series at home. Here are the updated ICC women’s ODI team rankings following the result.
Nat Sciver-Brunt passed her first assignment as England’s new all-format captain with flying colours, as her team defeated West Indies by 3-0 following an identical result in the preceding T20I leg. The result was set up by a 108-run win in the series opener. Amy Jones, promoted to open for the first time since 2019, scored her maiden international hundred, 12 years after her international debut. Jones (122) and Tammy Beaumont (107) put on 222 runs – England's fourth-highest opening stand in a women's ODI.
The Jones-Beaumont opening duo starred in the second match as well to help put up an insurmountable series lead with a 143-run win. Jones this time scored 129, while Beaumont hit 106, the pair having stitched a 202-run opening stand. They became the only duo to score hundreds in the same back-to-back ODIs.
West Indies went into the final ODI without their captain Hayley Matthews, who was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. Their performance didn’t see an improvement as they managed 106-8 in a 21-over-a-side rain-curtailed match after Sarah Glenn picked up 3-21.
England decided to experiment with the batting order as Beaumont sat out and Jones pushed back to the middle order, sending Sophia Dunkley and skipper Sciver-Brunt to open. They gunned down the total in 10.5 overs – their third-shortest ODI chase ever – with nine wickets remaining. Sciver-Brunt remained not out for a 33-ball 57.
