There was hardly anything to separate the two sides in the league stage, as both finished with 19 points, with each securing nine wins, four defeats from 14 matches, including a washout. PBKS claimed the top spot on the points table due to their narrow net run rate advantage of 0.071.
Both are aiming for their first title. The last time PBKS reached the playoffs was in 2014, when they were beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders in a nail-biting final. RCB, meanwhile, have been regulars in the playoffs, but have not managed to cross the final hurdle. This is the first time they have finished in the top two since losing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final in 2016.

Yuzvendra Chahal missed PBKS’ last two matches due to a wrist injury but is expected to return fit. The team is also without Marco Jansen, who is unavailable after being denied an NOC for the playoffs by Cricket South Africa. In his absence, Azamatullah Omarzai could find a spot in the XI.
For RCB, Josh Hazlewood is likely to return from a shoulder injury and could replace Nuwan Thushara despite the latter’s economical figures of 1-26 in the high-scoring clash against Lucknow Super Giants. Tim David’s fitness remains a concern after he picked up a hamstring injury during the match against SRH.
