Akash Deep becomes latest to be ruled out of the fourth England Test
Akash Deep, who picked up a ten-for in the second Test, has been ruled out of the fourth game, beginning in Manchester on Wednesday. The Bengal pacer suffered a groin injury at Lord’s and needed treatment during the game, although the extent of injury was uncertain.
He joins Arshdeep and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the list of injured players. Skipper Shubman Gill hinted that Anshul Kamboj, called in as a replacement, could make his debut at Old Trafford.
Shubman Gill questions England’s spirit of the game after time-wasting tactics at Lord’s
Gill slammed England openers for deliberately arriving 90 seconds late to the crease at the end of day three of the Lord’s Test, calling it against the spirit of the game. The incident led to visible tension, with Jasprit Bumrah sarcastically clapping at Zak Crawley and exchanges between Indian players and Ben Duckett. Speaking ahead of the fourth Test, Gill said the confrontation didn’t come out of nowhere and was the result of a build-up of questionable actions.
“Let me just clear the air, for once and for all. The English batsmen on that day had seven minutes of play left, they were 90 seconds late to come to the crease, not 10, not 20, 90 seconds late.
“Yes, most of the teams they use this [delaying tactic], even if we were in a position, we would have also liked to play lesser overs, but there is a manner to do it, and we felt, yes if you get hit on your body, the physios are allowed to come on, and that is something that is fair. But to be able to come 90 seconds late on the crease is not something that I would think comes in the way of the spirit of the game.”
Rehan Ahmed scores fourth ton in 2025 County Championship
Ahmed, who had a batting average of 19.77 ahead of the 2025 County Championship, has been a revelation in the season for Leicestershire. After being pushed to open the innings at the start of the competition, Rehan, who now slots in at No.3, has made 615 runs in nine games, including four hundreds, the latest of which came in the ongoing game with Derbyshire away from home.
Walking out at 0-2, after Rishi Patel and Sol Budinger fell in the space of six balls, Rehan scored 115 in 139 deliveries with the help of 15 fours and a six to continue his batting form.
Another failure for Lhuan-dre Pretorius
Pretorious, namechecked by Ben Stokes as one of the most promising talents to watch out for, has not been able to translate his T20 form into the international stage, making 32 runs in his debut series. Against Zimbabwe, Pretorious, who opened in the first three games, before being pushed to No.5 on Monday, so far has scores of 0, 27, 4 and 1.
