The ICC have released the annual update for their men’s ODI team rankings, with South Africa breaking into the top four.

South Africa move to fourth, India's lead cut down in ICC men's ODI team rankings update

The ICC release the annual updates to their men’s and women’s team rankings across formats in May. The Test and T20I updates were released earlier this month, and the men’s ODI team rankings were the latest to be updated. All ODIs played over the last year, since May 2025, have been given 100 per cent weightage for the update, while results from the two preceding years now carry half the weightage.

The Proteas have broken into the top four, moving past Pakistan, and are the only team to change spots in the top ten. India’s lead at the top of the table has narrowed down to just five points, with New Zealand holding the second spot and Australia the third. Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Ninth-placed Bangladesh, meanwhile, have received a boost to their hopes of earning a direct qualification to the 2027 ODI World Cup. The latest update has seen them extend their lead over tenth-placed West Indies to ten points from the previous six.

The top eight teams in the ICC team rankings, and the hosts, earn a direct spot in the World Cup, which, for the upcoming edition, are South Africa and Zimbabwe. Assuming South Africa remain in the top eight, the ninth-ranked team will then be given a direct route to the World Cup, while those below them will have to take the qualifier route.
